Seeking Refuge; An Emotional Intelligence Dialogue Around Empathy and Change Management.
While the global refugee crisis is a geopolitical issue, we have all sought refuge from the “storms of life.” Seeking Refuge’ is a shared experience about practicing emotional intelligence around the complex, challenging topic of empathy and other change catalyst skills.
We’ll examine how practicing emotional intelligence - listening, hearing, connecting, sharing perspectives – can build space in organizations, neighborhoods and worldwide for us to comfort and care for fellow beings. Learn about:
- Emotional intelligence as a toolset in challenging times.
- Increasing empathy and mutual understanding.
- How we can serve as a change-makers who help build a more just and compassionate

Dr. Pat Baxter is an organizational consultant with a global view, using her three decades of experience to coach and develop valuable, diverse talent across many cultures and countries. Her industry expertise includes financial services, IT, retail and pharmaceuticals, delivering results using a robust portfolio of leadership development tools and assessments.
She has served as a senior-level Talent Development leader in Citigroup, Sykes Enterprises, Inc., UNISYS, AchieveGlobal, Deloitte & Touche Consulting Group, BI-LO, and Right Management. As an executive consultant, Pat served leaders in American Express, Dollar General, Comcast, Toyota and the Association of Black Foundation Executives (ABFE).
Pat holds a doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Argosy University, a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree, both in Education from CUNY. She is certified in several well-known assessments including EQi2.0® and EQi360®, Crucial Conversations®, Conflict Dynamics Profile and the Birkman®.
She is a founder of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) in Florida and a graduate of Leadership America, the premier women’s leadership development program. In 2014, Pat received the Society of Emotional Intelligence Ambassador Award. Her book, ‘Cool Change: Turning Emotions into Leadership Strengths©’ has received praise for its practical advice to emerging leaders.
Anita Dahlstrom earned her M.B.A. with a focus on organizational leadership from Rollins College in Orlando. And she is a professional certified International Coaches Federation coach, practicing in the areas of emotional intelligence and leadership. She worked in the fast-paced hospitality and food industries assuring customer and employee delight in their service experiences. Passionate about people, her career coaching leaders in hospitality operations and later in human resources was a natural fit for her desire to add value and empower others. She made the leap into freelance work and formed her company, Possible Conversations, in 2014. In 2016 she committed to becoming a John Maxwell Team Member, and today is a certified speaker, coach and trainer leveraging the world's #1 Leadership Expert John C. Maxwell's timeless leadership and intentional living principles. She is also an ICF certified coach with certifications in several well-known assessments such as EQi2.0® and EQi360®, MBTI®, DISC®, TKI® and others.
